“Scared of zombies? Concerned about the apocalypse? Have we got the house for you. A Polish architectural firm has designed the world’s first zombie-proof abode — the “Safe House”. It’s not really inspired by the walking dead, but it’s been getting plenty of attention as the world celebrates its fifth annual Zombie Awareness Month.

Built between 2005 and 2009, the house features Rubik’s Cube-type movable parts and folds in on itself completely at the end of the day to seal against outside threats. “Every day the house acts in a similar way — it wakes up every morning to close up after dusk,” says architect Robert Konieczny of KWK Promes. Located on the outskirts of Warsaw, the Safe House has just one entrance, on the second floor, connected by a drawbridge. For extra security, after crossing the bridge, visitors have to wait within a safety zone before being let into the rest of the house.

During the day, the house opens onto a garden and the movable walls change position to create a courtyard. “There is no risk of children escaping to the street area in an uncontrolled way while playing in the garden,” says Mr Konieczny.”

For those of you who don’t know what Words with Friends is, it’s a game similar to Scrabble that you can play on your phone. I play occasionally with my friends, but I’m not all that good. However, as the picture shows, some people spend way to much time looking for words. They also have a ridiculously impressive vocabulary. Assuming this isn’t photo-shopped of course.

A Sarajevo Rose is the mark of a mortar shell that has been filled in with red resin, and they represent a location where one or more people were killed by that particular mortar. The name comes from the fact that the mortar impact resembles a floral arraignment, and Sarajevo is the location of some of the most intense fighting during the Bosnian War. An interesting, but sad, memory.

Because of the high pressure caused by layers of snow over time, all of the air in the lower parts of the glacier is pressed out leaving pure ice. Although it is clear, it appears blue due to the reflection and absorption of light. Due to the newer layers of unpacked snow as well as exposure to the elements, most glaciers appear a dull white as shown in the second picture of hikers on the same glacier. Ice caves are dangerous and difficult to explore but offer an unique view of such an incredible sight.

This hilarious looking contraption is a point-of-view camera used in the 2011 NFL Combine. This is supposed to give NFL Network viewers the chance to actually experience the NFL Combine from a first person perspective, getting the true sense of what it’s like to run a 40 yard dash…while remaining completely immobile on one’s couch munching on a big bag of those obnoxiously loud Sun Chips. Not sure how practical wearing the actual helmet is, but it does look entertaining. Make sure to check out the draft on April 29th.
