POTD: Space Shuttle + Hubble Solar Transit
The Space Shuttle Atlantis touched down today in California after a 13 day mission to service the Hubble Telescope. This was the fifth, and final space shuttle mission to update the Hubble, which can now probe deeper into the far reaches of Universe than ever before. The picture above shows Atlantis and Hubble in close proximity at an altitude of 375 miles. The picture was taken from Florida as the two passed in front of the sun — the entire transit across took only 4/5 (.8) of a second.
