Theo Jansen, Kinetic Sculptor

On the beaches of the Netherlands there is a new type of life. Called Strandbeests, they are the creation of Theo Jansen, a Dutch artist and kinetic sculptor. Using empty water bottles and plastic yellow tubes, and powered by the wind, his beasts utilize the power of the wind to walk on the sand. They are entirely mechanical, with newer species using binary brain-like counters and pressure-storage systems, all made out of very light materials. They are also startlingly beautiful.
