Funniest Comedy Movies
Superbad – An extremely funny movie about three nerdy friends on an epic quest for fun before going off to college. As they progress through the night, their situation goes from one hilarious incident to the next, all in the name of acquiring alcohol (and thus sex, they reason) for the first real party of their high school careers. It might even remind you of your own high school career. If you haven’t seen this movie already, go out and rent it. Now.

Blazing Saddles – Mel Brooks is a funny guy, and in Blazing Saddles it shows through and through. The movie follows a black railroad worker turned Western town sheriff as he tries to win over the town’s citizens while saving them all from impending doom. It contains all the necessary elements of a Western but the best image to sum up the movie’s absurdity is unabashedly Jewish Mel Brooks in blackface as a Sioux Indian. When it was released in 1974, it contained the first audible flatulence in any Hollywood production, and the rest of the comedy isn’t much more appropriate. The movie is as vulgar as it is hilarious and is a must see for those with the requisite hatred of political correctness.

Animal House – Superbad follows three nerds, two of them about to go off to Dartmouth. Coincidentally, Animal House shows the frat-house adventures of two nerds at Dartmouth-inspired Faber College. John Belushi, in arguably his most famous role, plays one of the many backwards characters in the Alpha Delta fraternity as they battle to avoid double secret probation (on account of their worst-on-campus grades) while still drinking, smoking and sticking it to the man.

40 Year Old Virgin – Steve Carrell in his break-out debut, plays the role of – well – a 40 year old virgin. The very premise evokes laughter at the thought, and it only gets funnier. Carrell struggles to find a first while his buddies at work try their hardest to get him some. Superbad may show the hilarity of three high-schoolers trying to get laid, but like a fine wine, the premise only gets better with age.

Trading Places – This could be considered the most sophisticated comedy of the bunch, and features two SNL vets in their prime. Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd play a hobo and commodities broker respectively who – you guessed it – trade places. The movie revolves around the question of nature versus nurture (in the least delicate manner possible) and follows the wild ride as prince-turned-pauper Akroyd grows accustomed to street life and newly turned patrician Murphy struggles learning the rules of high society.
