Fun Rock Band 2 Songs on Guitar
After the original Rock Band took America by storm, expectations were set high for the sequel. Crucial to the success of any rhythm game is, quite obviously, the song selection that the game has to offer. The original Rock Band had many hit songs on track, but many expert guitar players felt the game didn’t have any really hard songs. Rock Band 2 has a great selection of popular songs to attract the common person while still implementing a few “impossible” songs to challenge even the most battle-hardened game player. While I was disappointed when I first saw the Rock Band 2 song list, the songs have grown on me, and now I enjoy playing almost all of them. Below are a select few of the songs that I particularly enjoy playing. These are obviously songs that I personally enjoy; if you have any comments, want to add to the list, or disagree with my selections, please comment below. Enjoy: Alive (Pearl Jam) – While the first four minutes or so of the songs are not particularly entertaining, the two minute guitar solo at the end of the song is epic. This is the song that single-handedly got me addicted to Rock Band 2. Alive is, in my opinion, one of the best on-disc songs that Rock Band 2 has to offer. Plus, Pearl Jam is a Seattle band, and here at STS, we’re all about Seattle (in fact, Mike McCready, Pearl Jam’s lead guitarist, recently showed up at one of our school’s girls basketball games). The song isn’t so difficult that relative newcomers to the game will be absolutely destroyed, but it’ll provide a fairly tough test for those relatively advanced players trying to score 100%. Master Exploder (Tenacious D) – I am, admittedly, not all that great Rock Band 2, and Master Exploder continues to kick my ass time and time again (I am not very good at alt strumming…). However, this is undoubtedly one of the most badass songs in the game, and despite the fact that I am absolutely terrible at it, I just keep playing it over and over again. Let There Be Rock (AC/DC) – Unquestionably one of the most epic songs of the game. The main riff is pretty challenging at first, but after I got the hang of them, the song was just flat out fun to play. In particular, the satisfaction I feel when I do really well on the three solos is a feeling that I cannot describe with words. By the time I finish the song, I am always worn out from the crazy solo and ending bonus, but I’m also always in such a good mood and so pumped up that I just have to play the song again. Down With The Sickness (Disturbed) – Something about this song just keeps me coming back. I really don’t like the lyrics or the singing, but the notes in the song are, quite simply, really fun to play. Additionally, the bass part is, at times, identical to the guitar part, so bass is pretty fun to play on this song. While the song has a few tricky parts, it’s not overwhelmingly difficult, so most people should enjoy playing this one. These songs are just 4 of the 84 songs on-disc, so I really encourage everybody to post their favorite songs and why they enjoy playing them.
