Rafflesia is interesting for more things than the size or smell of its flower:

* It is a parasite living completely inside root of its the host (which are three species, all vines)
* It has no stem, but only a loose bunch of fibres that function as a stem. These strands are completely enclosed by root of the host
* For most part, the parasite exhibits no activity whatsoever. Then, on an unknown trigger, the fibres break the root of the host and emerge with a cabbage-sized bud
* The bud takes over 9 months to reach the flower (most do not become flowers)</description>
